So Long Sweet Summer...

I packed up all of our summer decorations today.. kind of bittersweet!

I am still in disbelief that this summer is almost over. Is it just me or did it go by exceptionally fast? I am so used to telling people that we "just moved" here, but in actuality, we have been here for almost 6 months. (And still not even close to being finished decorating.. oops.) Although I love love love the fall, there are obviously some things about summertime that I will miss:

Weekly (Morning) Playgroups. Next week, Ryan will be starting his Montessori school (yay)! He will go for a few hours each morning, which sadly means that we will no longer be able to join in our regular morning playgroups. Since Ryan was about ten months old, we have been a part of several different playgroups that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and sometimes randomly throughout the week. I know that Ryan will meet a bunch of new friends at school, but we will really miss not seeing our other friends as often. We will just have to plan more weekend events, MNO's, and maybe start an afternoon playgroup.

One of the best things about summertime is that it is usually enjoyable weather when we meet our friends outside to play, so we don't have to worry about being cooped up inside the house for days at a time like we do in the winter. Here is Ryan practicing some toddler yoga at Monday playgroup:

Swimming Lessons and Splash Parks. Ryan used to be a total water baby, but this summer, he started to act more scared/cautious about the pool. We put him in weekly swim lessons, which seemed to have helped him to become a little more comfortable in the water. (Confession: I don't really know how to swim myself, except for the backstroke!) I will miss our hot pool days, picnics, and relaxing while soaking up the sun.

Berry Picking at the farm. We only went berry picking once this summer, and I'm sure that we will go apple picking and pumpkin picking in the fall, but there is something special about biting into a juicy blackberry, straight from the tree, with the sun scorching down, that really makes you appreciate summer. Yum!

The Beach. Since we now live about an hour closer to the beach, I thought that we would be taking frequent day trips over to Rehobeth and Ocean City throughout summer. Yet, due to my habit of overbooking our calendar with activities/events, we didn't actually make it to the beach until the very LAST weekend of summer. Oh well, better late than never. We had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and we even got to see a a few aunts and cousins. And, of course, the weekend wouldn't be complete without a trip to the toy store and froyo!

I hope that everyone is enjoying the long weekend and getting psyched up for fall. I am in the midst of planning Ryan's 3rd birthday party and he is super excited that we are finally in his birthday month.

I’m happy to have found your site from Pinterest. My story follows yours somewhat, as I have two small children and was recently treated for breast cancer. Your site is wonderful!
